August 30, 2009 – The Professional Aviation Maintenance Foundation (PAMF) is proud to announce its “Under Our Wing: Future Aviation Maintenance Professionals” campaign to help strengthen and expand the annual scholarships it provides to qualified students and Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA) members.
Since its formation in 1998, PAMF has demonstrated its commitment to the continuous improvement of the aviation maintenance industry by supporting the education of airframe, power plant, and avionics students who have selected aviation maintenance as a career. Over the past 10 years, the foundation has provided $172,000 in scholarship funds to 157 students across the US.
The Under Our Wing campaign serves to emphasize the important role that professional aviation maintenance professionals play. Everyday US skies are bustling with air traffic. According to the National Air Traffic Controllers Association more than 87,000 flights take wing every day in the United States. In one year, that represents approximately 64 million takeoffs and landings! 64 millions flights of expertly engineered aircraft produced by any one of numerous manufacturers, each requiring individual maintenance and system optimization to operate safely and continuously. Keeping aircraft aloft, powering the economy, providing for the national defense, and maintaining a safety record that is second to none in the travel industry can be attributed to several converging factors. Central to all of these, however, are the skilled technicians who rigorously perform aviation maintenance and provide the technical expertise that enables our nation to take flight.
Today, more than 100 years after the Wright brothers made their first flight; the aviation industry is growing and changing in ways that carries important implications for the education and continuing education of aviation maintenance professionals. PAMF is committed to help meet those challenges by strengthening and expanding its scholarship program. John Boomhower, PAMF’s board chairman noted, “the foundation’s “Under Our Wing” campaign provides the rallying point for leaders in the aviation industry and PAMA members to come together in support of our shared goals.”
