OAKLAND -- What turned out to be a false bomb threat Friday morning led to the evacuation of passengers from an Alaska Airlines flight bound from Oakland to Seattle and a delay while the aircraft was searched, police said.

The threat was phoned into the Oakland International Airport about 9:20 a.m. as the jet was backing away from the terminal, police said.

Lt. Ed Poulson said the plane was diverted to a remote area of the airport and the 106 passengers and crew and luggage taken off.

Specially trained dogs from Oakland and BART police departments searched the aircraft and baggage but fouund nothing, Poulson said.

The jet was released back to the airline by 10:45 a.m. and passengers were allowed to reboard for their flight, Poulson said.
