Menzies and AHS Inaugurate Air Cargo Facility at Queen Alia International Airport
Menzies Aviation and its strategic partner, Aviation Handling Services (AHS), have announced the inauguration of its new state-of-the-art cargo facility at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Amman, Jordan.
The ceremony was officiated under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and represented by His Excellency Muthana Gharaibeh, Minister of Investment. It was also attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Fares Abu Dayah, who represented the Minister of Transport.
Since beginning operations at QAIA in 2008, AHS-Menzies has played a vital role in the development of both Jordan’s air cargo sector and ground handling services. Developed in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Investment, the new purpose-built cargo facility further reinforces Jordan’s position as a premier regional logistics and air cargo hub. As the first carbon neutral airport in the Middle East, the launch of this second cargo terminal at QAIA significantly increases the airport’s handling capacity, boosts operational efficiency, and contributes to further sustainable economic development.
The new 8,000-square-meter terminal is equipped with cutting-edge technologies designed to optimise efficiency and streamline cargo operations. Key features include Automated Elevating Transfer Vehicles (ETVs) for seamless internal cargo movement, a Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) racking system offering 2,400 pallet positions for maximsed storage capacity, and Menzies’ truly innovative end-to-end cargo management system, MACH which integrates billing, documentation, and real-time cargo tracking.
The facility also houses dedicated zones for perishables, pharmaceuticals, and general freight, all built to meet stringent international safety and compliance standards. It has contributed to the expansion of Menzies Aviation’s Jordanian workforce to approximately 480 employees, delivering ground and cargo services, with further job opportunities expected as operations continue to grow. It will ensure all employees are trained to the highest standards to deliver the safest and most secure services to customers.
Charles Wyley, Executive Vice President, MEAA, Menzies Aviation, said: “The launch of our new cargo facility in Amman, in collaboration with our valued strategic partner AHS, marks a significant milestone in our commitment to the region. This investment strengthens our presence in Jordan and underscores our confidence in the Middle East’s growing role in global trade. As the logistics industry continues to evolve, this facility positions us, and our partners, for long-term growth, innovation, and regional connectivity.”
Mervyn Walker, Special Advisor to the CEO, Menzies Aviation, added: “It was both an honour and a privilege to officially open the new AHS Menzies cargo terminal at Queen Alia International Airport. This marks the 73rd cargo terminal in our growing global network—spanning from Amman to Bogotá, Auckland to London, and Johannesburg to San Francisco. Each new location is a testament to our unwavering commitment to operational excellence, strategic growth, and delivering world-class cargo solutions wherever our customers need us.”
