Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a SATS company, has been awarded a handling license at Oslo Airport, marking the first expansion of the SATS global network into Norway.

The license, which remains subject to certain conditions being fulfilled, will make WFS the third cargo handler operating at Oslo Airport. Airport operator Avinor said the additional provider will increase cargo handling capacity and competition for airlines, freight forwarders and cargo owners.

“This is very good news for Oslo Airport and the cargo community. We have never previously had three cargo handlers at the airport, and a third operator will increase capacity and provide an even better offering for airlines, freight forwarders and cargo owners,” said Eva Beate Lande, head of cargo at Avinor.

Oslo Airport is experiencing growing demand for cargo services and serves as a major departure point for time-critical and perishable shipments, including Norwegian seafood. Avinor said adding another handler is part of its broader cargo strategy and will support continued development of the airport’s Cargo West area.

“A new operator is an important milestone in our cargo strategy and will help strengthen the resilience of the cargo supply chain and facilitate further growth in both Norwegian and international air freight,” Lande said.

WFS and SATS currently provide cargo handling services at more than 225 stations in 27 countries. The companies said their combined network covers trade routes accounting for more than 50 percent of global air cargo volume.
