Austin-Bergstrom Airport Worker Dies after Being Struck by Fuel Truck
Oct. 31—An employee of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport was killed in an accident Tuesday morning, airport officials said.
The employee, who was not identified, was strucked and killed by a fuel truck around 9:30 a.m., officials said.
The airport confirmed that it asked emergency service personnel to respond to an incident Tuesday morning in which an employee was injured. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services pronounced the employee dead at the scene just after 10 a.m.
"Our thoughts are with the deceased's loved ones, friends, families and colleagues and we ask our community to keep them in their thoughts," the airport said in a statement.
The accident happened on the secure side of the airport, where planes park for passengers to board, near Gates 33 and 34.
Airport operations were not affected.
It was the second fatal accident at the Austin airport in less than seven months. In April, an American Airlines worker died when the ground-service vehicle they were driving crashed into a jet bridge near Gate 24.
"We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport," the airline said in a statement at the time. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time."
