May 18—Elite Airways is bringing back service to Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport with a flight that will provide a gateway to the northeast.

The biweekly flights, which begin July 2, will start by landing at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York, before continuing on to Elite's home base of Portland, Maine. Tickets start at $199 each way.

The airline has flown between Sarasota- Bradenton and Portland in the past. John Pearsall, president of Elite Airways, said that customers who choose to disembark the aircraft in White Plains will be able to take advantage of that airport's daily nonstop flights to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Westchester County Airport itself is about 25 miles outside of Manhattan and a short drive to Connecticut and New York City suburbs.

"We would like to thank our customers and airport officials for their continued support as we expand our service to meet renewed demand for leisure travel along the east coast," he said.

Business has been booming at Sarasota- Bradenton even since the onset of COVID-19, as more Americans get vaccinated and plan vacations. Southwest Airlines joined the airport's fleet in February with four destinations and will serve 16 by this summer. Delta Air Lines extended its service to Detroit through the summer, and United Airlines did the same with its flights to Denver.

And just last month, the airport set another all-time passenger traffic record for a single month, even after an already record-breaking March.

"Today's announcement is a sign of more good things to come at SRQ as we've been experiencing record-breaking traffic and believe that Elite's new flights will be well received by leisure and business travelers this year," Rick Piccolo, president and CEO of Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, said.
