Replica Grenade Found in Newark Airport Passenger’s Checked Bag, TSA Says
Police removed a passenger from his flight Saturday morning at Newark Liberty International Airport after a realistic looking grenade was found in the man’s checked bag, authorities said.
Transportation Security Administration agents located the item while the luggage was in a Southwest Airlines baggage room in Terminal A, a TSA spokeswoman said Monday. TSA called Port Authority police, who escorted the man from the plane to question him.
Explosive experts determined that it was a replica, which are prohibited from flights. The fake grenade appears to have a slot to place coins.
The passengers was not charged, Port Authority police said.
