Sep. 21—GRAND FORKS — Grand Forks International Airport has been awarded $15.9 million to help pay for continued infrastructure upgrades.
The latest funding was announced by the office of U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R- N.D. It comes from the federal Airport Improvement Program and, according to a release from the office, will be used to support the required sewer and earthwork necessary for the extension and reconstruction of a taxiway and runway.
The airport is in the midst of infrastructure upgrades that are expected to help expand and improve the local facility.
"With over 365,000 flight operations per year, Grand Forks International Airport is one of the top 25 busiest airports in the country," Hoeven said in a statement sent to the media. "We've worked to support this project in order to ensure that UND has the airport capacity to continue to train the next generation of airline pilots, to support the continued economic development of the Grand Forks region, and to enhance the safety of the traveling public."
