FAA Shares New Airworthiness Directive Mandating V2500 HPC Rotor Blade Replacements

The new AD for International Aero Engines EG V2500 models requires operators to replace the full set of failing third-stage blades with approved replacement parts.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has published a new airworthiness directive (AD) covering V2500 engine models by International Aero Engines EG mandating the replacement of impacted third-stage HPC rotor blades.

The new AD for International Aero Engines EG V2500 models requires operators to inspect engines in this series and replace the full set of third-stage blades with approved replacement parts. It covers the following models:

  • V2522-A5
  • V2524-A5
  • V2525-D5
  • V2527-A5
  • V2527E-A5
  • V2527M-A5
  • V2528-D5
  • V2530-A5
  • V2531-E5
  • V2533-A5

According to the FAA, “This AD was prompted by a manufacturer investigation that revealed that certain 3rd stage high pressure compressor (HPC) rotor blades were susceptible to shroud wear and blade failure.”

This investigation followed several reports of failed third-stage HPC rotor blades, such as:

  • Engine fires
  • Unplanned engine removals
  • Aborted takeoffs
  • In-flight shutdowns (IFSD)

Upon discovering an issue with this component and related parts, teams should replace the full set of blades at the next engine shop visit after the AD’s effective date.

The new AD goes into effect September 24, 2026.
