Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Montgomery Field Airport
A small plane with three people on board made an emergency landing at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in Kearny Mesa after experiencing landing gear issues Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The single-engine aircraft circled the airport, also known as Montgomery Field, for roughly 30 minutes to burn fuel — a safety measure that reduces an aircraft's weight and aims to prevent a hard landing, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials.
Fire crews responded and were on hand as a precaution.
The aircraft landed safely about 1:50 p.m. and no injuries were reported. No further information was immediately available.
