Small Plane Makes Belly Landing at San Jose Park
SAN JOSE — A small plane made an emergency landing in a park Saturday, authorities said.
The plane came to a rest on its belly in Hillview Park, near the Reid-Hillview Airport. San Jose Fire personnel confirmed they were called to the scene.
Preliminary information from the scene indicated that the pilot of the single-engine Lancair 320 reported engine trouble immediately after taking off from Reid-Hillview Airport around 3:15 p.m., spokesman Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The pilot was the only person aboard the aircraft, Gregor said.
Fire personnel did not respond immediately to inquiries about the pilot’s condition, but there were no reports of injuries. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
NBC Bay Area shared images on its Twitter feed of the plane on the ground in the park.
