2 Injured in Small Plane Crash at St. Augustine
Two men were injured when their small commuter plane crashed into marsh Sunday morning about two miles south of Northeast Regional Airport in St. Augustine.
The victims — age 19 and 44 years old — sustained moderate injuries in the crash about 9:21 a.m. One was taken by ambulance to Flagler Hospital while the other was treated at the scene, said Captain Andrew O'Quinn of St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
O'Quinn said a good Samaritan in a boat saw the crash and plucked the men from the marsh. A St. Augustine Fire Department boat, which also was in the area, then met up with the civilian boater and picked up the victims and administered emergency care, he said.
The men were ferried to the Vilano Boat Ramp to meet first responders and received further care, he said
The cause of the crash wasn't immediately known, said Chuck Mulligan, a St. Johns County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
Mulligan said the crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol and federal aviation authorities.
