Four Escape with Minor Injuries After Light Plane Crashes at Le Roy Airport
Four people escaped with apparently minor injuries when their light plane crashed while attempting to take off from Le Roy Airport about 3 p.m. Sunday, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office reported.
According to the report, the pilot, John Yates, 48, of Canandaigua, was en route home with his wife and two children.
All four were able to exit the plane and were taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation. The Sheriff’s Office said their injuries are believed to be minor.
The Sheriff’s Office said the plane, a single-engine Beechcraft A36 Bonanza, failed to take off, struck an embankment and remained upright after it stopped in an open field. The report said the plane sustained damage to its undercarriage and engine compartment.
The cause has not yet been determined, the Sheriff’s Office said. The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration.
