LAKELAND--- A small airplane crashed near Lakeland Linder Regional Airport Monday afternoon, killing two men from Ohio.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the single-engine experimental plane crashed about 2:15 p.m. in pine trees next to Waring Road, a block east of the airport.
The victims were identified as pilot Terrence Albert Sack, 61, of Dublin, Ohio, and passenger Roger L. Caldwell, 56, of Blacklick Ohio.
It is unclear whether the plane was associated with this week's Sun 'n Fun Fly-In, an annual event that includes daily aerobatic air shows. More than 150,000 people are expected to attend.
