EAST Midlands Airport has been named airport of the year for the fourth time in five years. Travel agents and industry specialists voted the airport the best at the National Travel Trade Gazette awards on Thursday night.
The airport pipped airports in Manchester, Bournemouth and Bristol to the title.
Airports are judged on their facilities, customer service standards, innovation, travel-trade relations, business strategy, environmental performance and commitment to their local communities.
It is the second award in two weeks for East Midlands Airport, after it secured Star Regional Best UK Airport at the Travel Bulletin Star Awards.
Airport managing director Brad Miller said: "We are delighted and extremely proud to have been named winner by some of the most experienced travel industry professionals.
"The award clearly demonstrates the positive steps our airport is taking towards raising the bar in airport standards and it's great to see that our efforts have been recognised."
East Midlands won airport of the year at the 2007, 2008 and 2010 Travel Trade Gazette awards.
