Alyzia Strike Participation to Disrupt Brussels Airport Flights

Brussels Airport said approximately half of the flights handled by Alyzia are currently expected to operate as planned, while a number of others will be canceled.

Ground handling operations at Brussels Airport are expected to be disrupted Friday, Oct. 9, as some employees of ground handler Alyzia participate in a nationwide labor action in Belgium.

Brussels Airport said approximately half of the flights handled by Alyzia are currently expected to operate as planned, while a number of others will be canceled. Belgian media reports indicate approximately 140 arriving and departing flights could be affected.

Alyzia provides ground handling services for a number of airlines operating at Brussels Airport, including baggage handling, ramp operations, aircraft cleaning, deicing and cargo and mail transport.

Brussels Airlines is among the carriers expected to be affected. Approximately 40 percent of its flights are expected to be disrupted, according to local reports.

Brussels Airport said no impact is currently expected for flights handled by Aviapartner, the airport’s other ground handling provider.

Airlines working with Alyzia are contacting affected passengers directly with information about flight status and alternative arrangements. The airport said cancellations will appear in its online flight overview once they are registered by individual airlines.

A separate public-sector labor action is planned for Monday, Oct. 12, but Brussels Airport currently expects no impact on air traffic from that action.
