The initiative is designed to increase interest in ground handling jobs, which include ramp services like baggage handling, fueling, deicing, pushback and marshalling, among others. These service help ensure effienct on-time performance (OTP) for airlines and airports.
The article also notes that the industry's ability to recruit ground handling personnel can also have a postive influence on Japan's position as a tourism-focused destination.
