Several Flights to Seattle from PDX Canceled Because of Winter Weather, Airlines Say
At least two airlines said winter weather forced the cancellation of four flights Monday from Portland to Seattle.
Both Delta and Alaska Airlines posted advisories about the cancellations as well as delays. Portland International Airport reported 11 delayed and 11 canceled flights Monday.
Alaska Airlines said its crews needed extra time to de-ice aircrafts before departure. The snow and wintry condition are creating “a bit of a bah-humbug” for flights to and from Seattle, the airline said.
According to Flight Aware, which tracks delay and cancellation statistics, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has 61 flight delays and 153 flight cancellations Monday. A majority of the cancellations — about 35% — are on Alaska and Delta airlines.
It marked another bad day for travel in the Pacific Northwest after the Seattle airport had 187 delayed and 113 canceled flights Sunday after snowy weather conditions.
The last time the Seattle airport experienced such challenging snow conditions was almost two years ago, in February 2019, according to The Seattle Times.
In Portland, locals will see a brief break in the winter weather early Monday with some light flurries and continued slick conditions before another round of snow arrives Monday night. Portland airport officials did not immediately respond to inquiries about how the weather may continue to affect travel this week.
