Foreign Airlines Return to Iran's Airspace

Deputy CEO of Iran Aviation Organization announced the resumption and gradual increase of flights of foreign airlines over the country`s airspace, Trend reports citing CAO official website.

"Continuous monitoring and inspections are carried out on the situation of Iranian airports and airlines,” Vice President for Aeronautical and International Affairs at the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran (CAO) Morteza Dehghan said, referring to the measures taken to monitor the implementation of health protocols imposed because of COVID-19.

Referring to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) warning against flying through Iranian airspace in recent days, he stated that this was an extension for Iran and nothing has changed in EASA recommendation but extended the previous one until January 16, 2021.

"The new one is exactly similar to the previous note,” said Dehghan. “Airlines are advised to not fly below 25,000 feet over Iranian airspace based on their risk assessment.”

He noted that the negotiations have been held with EASA and some European countries to address concerns and provide reassurance about Iran's airspace.

Dehghan went on to emphasize that the return of international airlines to the country after the outbreak of coronavirus is a positive sign, following Iran's taking proper cautionary and security measures regarding its airports.

The European Aviation Safety Agency has earlier warned that passenger jets flying through Iranian airspace risk of being accidentally targeted by the country’s air-defense systems.
