Laser Pointed at JetBlue Flight on Newark Airport Approach, FAA Says

Someone pointed a laser at a JetBlue flight on Saturday minutes before it arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport, officials said.

The pilots of JetBlue flight 1944 reported seeing the light around 8:25 p.m. over Paterson, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

The AirBus A320, which was coming from Palm Beach International Airport in Florida, landed without incident minutes later.

There have been more than 30 reports of lasers being aimed at planes in New Jersey in 2019 as of late September, according to FAA data. Last year, there were 5,663 laser incidents nationally, down from 6,754 in 2017 and 7,398 in 2016

It’s a federal crime to point a laser at a plane.

The FAA said it was investigating. JetBlue didn’t immediately return a message from NJ Advance Media asking for additional information.
