Oil Pressure Problem Forces Plane to Make Emergency Landing at Syracuse Airport

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- An airplane flying from Boston to Los Angeles was forced to make an emergency landing at Hancock International Airport Friday night because of oil pressure problems, airport officials said.

The Delta Boeing 757 had 164 passengers and crews on board, according to an airport spokeswoman.

One engine of the plane had to be shut off, according to police scanner reports. The plane burned off fuel before landing safely.

The problem was reported to Onondaga County 911 dispatch at 7:11 p.m and prompted several NAVAC ambulances, the Syracuse Fire Department and New York State Police.

According to scanner reports the Interstate 81 exits to the airport were closed for a short time.

The airport is open and operational, the spokeswoman said.

This is breaking news. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
