Thai Airline Former Exec Jailed in Absentia in Paris Over 2007 Crash

Paris (dpa) - A French court Tuesday passed a four-year prison sentence in absentia against a former Thai airline executive over a 2007 crash that killed 90 people, a judicial source in Paris said.

Udom Tantiprasongchai, the founder and chief executive of One-Two-Go airlines, was found guilty of involuntary homicide and involuntarily causing injuries, the source said.

He was also fined 75,000 euros (82,250 dollars), and the court issued a warrant for his arrest.

The One-Two-Go McDonnell-Douglas jetliner crashed in September 2007 while attempting to land on the vacation island of Phuket in heavy rain and strong winds.

Forty-one people, some with serious injuries, managed to escape the burning wreck.

The Paris court had jurisdiction under national law, as a number of the dead were French citizens.
