Avports LLC announced Dec. 2 that it has hired Michael A. Jones to serve as CEO of its subsidiary, The New HVN LLC, which will oversee the historic investment in and expansion of Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN).
Last year, elected officials, The Tweed-New Haven Airport Authority (TNHAA) board members and staff, and Avports announced a major agreement to move the airport forward on an agreement to the benefit of flyers, the airport, airlines, airline employees, taxpayers, and the local economy. This past August, to develop and operator HVN which includes plans to invest up to $100 million in private funds to finance this project.
Michael is a seasoned travel hospitality professional with strong Connecticut ties who brings a proven background and market understanding of business development, strategy, service delivery, and quality leadership. Michael has been part of distinctive companies such as HMSHost, Project Service LLC / CT Service Plazas, Anton Airfood Inc., and Walt Disney Resorts. He has developed strong business relationships and experience in the development of major public-private partnerships, in addition to leading the growth of companies in industries adjacent to aviation, including his work with airport food and beverage operators and other airport retail business.

Michael will serve as CEO of The New HVN LLC and will manage the upcoming construction of the airport’s new terminal. When completed, the project will result in the extension of the runway, the creation of a new, carbon neutral terminal and significant infrastructure changes to improve traffic flow and safety. Taken together, the changes will allow for more flights to more destinations, and will eliminate the need for long existing state and city subsidies.
