Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Posts Fifth Consecutive Month of Commercial Passenger Growth

April 17, 2018

For the fifth consecutive month, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (Gateway Airport) posted year-over-year growth in passenger activity during February 2018. The continued growth represents the busiest February since 2013 and is the second highest February on record. New destinations and additional flight frequency on existing routes have contributed to the 12 percent increase in passengers served compared to February 2017.  A total of 129,190 air travelers used Gateway Airport during the month.

“An increased number of air travelers from across the country took advantage of near perfect weather and an early start to Cactus League Spring Training this year,” said Gilbert Mayor and Chair of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) Jenn Daniels. “Gateway Airport provides an easy and affordable way to escape the cold weather and enjoy all that the Greater Phoenix area has to offer.”

Gateway Airport currently serves 46 nonstop destinations through its airline partners Allegiant and WestJet. The airport, located within 20 minutes of Phoenix and Scottsdale, is known for its Just Plane Easy experience and unparalleled value.

“Gateway Airport provides a convenient connection to all 15 Spring Training stadiums in the Valley; as well as access to hundreds of premium golf courses, hiking trails, and some of the finest resorts and restaurants in the country,” said PMGAA Executive Director/CEO J. Brian O’Neill, A.A.E. “The 11 new nonstop destinations added at the Airport during the past year gives even more travelers across the country increased opportunities to experience all that Arizona has to offer. We are grateful they are making Gateway their airport of choice.”
