Dec. 16, 2016

Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) proudly celebrates Montréal–Trudeau airport’s 16 millionth passenger of this year. It marks the first time in the airport’s history that annual passenger traffic has reached this milestone.

James Cherry, President and Chief Executive Officer, ADM, and David Rheault, director, government affairs and community relations, Air Canada, were in attendance to celebrate the event and to present prizes to passengers aboard Air Canada flight 874, bound for Frankfurt, Germany.

“The 16 millionth passenger is on board and we are happy to celebrate this honour with everyone on the flight,” said Cherry

Serving more than 137 destinations by direct flight, Montréal–Trudeau is Canada’s second-largest airport in terms of international destinations and connecting traffic continues to grow, particularly because of Air Canada, which uses the airport as a hub between Europe and the United States.

"Air Canada is proud to call Montreal home and on behalf of our more than 6,000 employees here, we are very excited to contribute to the growth of Montreal-Trudeau as an important strategic hub," said Benjamin Smith, President, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada. "As we continue to expand our global network, we will have carried a record of close to nine million customers through Montreal-Trudeau in 2016. In the past year alone we have launched or announced 13 new destinations from Montreal, including Shanghai, Algiers, Lyon, Marseille, Philadelphia, Denver, Houston and Dallas, further facilitating travel and trade for the benefit of the Montreal economy."

Montréal–Trudeau is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, the terminal, which been expanded and modernized since 2002, now meets the industry’s highest standards.

“We are proud of the work accomplished by ADM’s employees and partners,” Cherry concluded. “With the inauguration of the extension to the new international jetty, the opening of two new commercial areas in the international and domestic zones, and the addition of several new non-stop flights, 2016 definitely offered our passengers a revitalization that helped enhance the customer experience at Montréal–Trudeau.”
