BWI: Sets New March Passenger Record

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport announced May 31, that 2,080,117 passengers flew through the airport in March.  That figure was an increase of 8.9 percent over the same month last year and a new passenger record for the month of March.  It was the ninth-straight monthly record for BWI Marshall.  International passenger traffic climbed by 22 percent in March.

“The continued success of BWI Marshall highlights our administration's commitment to growing businesses in Maryland and creating more job opportunities,” said Governor Larry Hogan.

With the new March record, BWI Marshall also set a new passenger record for the first quarter in its history, with about 5.3 million passengers.  Several airlines at BWI Marshall experienced passenger growth for March 2016, including: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines.

“BWI Marshall offers affordable airfares, efficient access, and excellent customer service,” said Ricky Smith, Chief Executive Officer of BWI Marshall.  “We thank our passengers and our airline partners for the record growth.”

Passenger traffic at BWI Marshall has steadily increased.  New airlines and new destinations have been added in recent months.  Consistent growth led to a new all-time annual record for passenger traffic in 2015, with more than 23.8 million passengers.
