Feb. 8, 2023

Feb. 7—The McAllen International Airport continues to see an increase in visitors every year serving a record number of travelers in 2022, according to a news release.

This past year the airport saw a total of 875,899 passengers visiting the Rio Grande Valley.

According to a news release, the McAllen airport led the region with 45% of the RGV's commercial air service market share.

" McAllen is quickly becoming a top destination for leisure, commerce and so much more. McAllen International Airport continues to lead the region in connecting our community with the world," Mayor Javier Villalobos said in the release.

The airport is one of the top 10 busiest airports in Texas that continues to see steady growth in commercial airline traffic, the city said.

In fact, the airport currently partners with American Airlines, United Allegiant and Aeromar which serve seven "nonstop destinations" that include Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Nashville and Mexico City with seasonal services to Orlando and Los Angeles.

Not only has it led the airline market in Texas, but it has also become the first South Texas Airport of the Dallas Cowboys: "the first partnership of its kind in the United States," the city said in the release.

" The McAllen International Airport team goes above and beyond to connect travelers with world-class destinations and first-class travel amenities. Thanks to over 34 million dollars in multi-year improvement projects and unique partnerships, McAllen International Airport's travelers will enjoy all of these amenities for years to come," City Manager Roel "Roy" Rodriguez said in the release.
