Police: At Least 1 Dead Following Vehicle Crash at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling
At least one person was killed when two vehicles collided at the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, according to authorities.
The Wednesday morning crash apparently was the result of a truck crashing through the fence at the Chicago Executive Airport,1020 Plant Road in Wheeling, formerly known as the Palwaukee Municipal Airport. Wheeling police in a post on social media said the fatal crash happened near the intersection of Wolf Road and Messner Drive.
The truck continued onto airport grounds and collided with another vehicle, resulting in two fatalities, according to WGN-TV, but police did not say how many fatalities occurred. Calls and emails to police and fire agencies in Wheeling were not immediately returned.
Wolf Road was closed from Palatine Road to Hintz Road as is the airport, the station reported. Traffic is being rerouted and the Northwest Suburban Serious Traffic Accident Recontruction unit is investigating, authorities said on Twitter.
