St. Augustine Airport Receives $3.3 Million Grant for Improvements

The Northeast Florida Regional Airport will soon receive an upgrade.

The St. Johns County Airport Authority announced Friday the facility would receive a $3.3 million grant for infrastructure improvements. The project will rehabilitate 19,000 square yards of the existing 20-year-old terminal apron pavement, helping maintain its structural integrity and minimize foreign object debris.

Rep. John Rutherford, who was instrumental in securing the funding, said in a news release: "Today's announcement continues the pattern of growing federal investment into the logistics network of Northeast Florida. This critical funding for Northeast Florida Regional Airport will help strengthen their operational capacity, upgrade runway pavement and reduce their long-term cost of maintenance."

For his part, Ed Wuellner, executive director of the airport, said: "This grant award enables us to leverage limited local and state dollars to make major infrastructure improvements that would not be possible without the Airport Improvement Program."
