$57 Million Parking Deck Expansion Coming To Booming Huntsville Airport
Work is underway on the $57 million parking deck expansion at Huntsville International Airport.
The city of Huntsville issued a permit for $45.9 million for the project last month.
It is the most expensive project issued a permit in Madison County since June 24, according to permits pulled by reportconstruction.com.
Overall, 541 permits have been issued in Madison County between June 24 and Aug. 4, totaling more than $209 million.
The project at the airport will add 1,415 spaces to the parking deck, increasing capacity by about 60% to more than 3,800 spaces.
The extra spaces are needed to keep up with the growth at the airport, which has had three consecutive years of record travel.
The addition is being built west of the existing parking deck and will take about two years to complete, according to Robins & Morton, the contractor working on the project.
The expansion will include reorienting the entrance to the deck, a new elevator lobby and stairwell, as well as a Fly HSV façade. KPS Group is the design firm working on the project.
Robins & Morton is involved with multiple projects at the airport. And it was issued another permit for $1.4 million for alterations at the airport. Terminal and concourse improvements have been ongoing at the airport. It is also involved in the construction of a $14.4 million Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Station.
Robins & Morton was also the contractor a $1.4 million infrastructure upgrade for Madison Hospital at 8391 U.S. 72 W in Madison. It is one of multiple projects the firm is involved with with Huntsville Hospital Health System, including the $150 million Madison Street Tower expansion.
Other projects
- A permit was issued for a $13.9 million alteration to 8500 Advanced Gateway, a five-story, 150,000 square-foot Class A office building at the Redstone Gateway not far from Gate 9. The permit was issued to COPT Defense Properties. Brasfield & Gorrie, which has worked on several Redstone Gateway buildings, is the contractor.
- A permit was issued to Northrop Grumman for a $7.3 million alteration to its facility at 213 Wynn Dr. NW in Huntsville. Buch Construction Inc of Laurel, Maryland, is the contractor.
- Huntsville issued a permit to Connecticut-based Twenty Lake Holdings for a new $7 million building at 100 Electronics Blvd. The firm owns property at the former Remington Outdoors plant site near Huntsville International Airport. Premier Design+Build Group, LLC. Is the builder.
- A permit has been issued for a $3.2 million alteration to West Huntsville Church of Christ at 1519 Old Monrovia Rd. NW in Huntsville. Sue Jac, Inc., of Decatur, is the contractor.
- Miller Construction Services, Inc., of Baltimore, is working on a $1.9 million alteration to the Costco at 1205 Memorial Parkway.
- Drake State Community and Technical College was issued a permit for a $1 million alteration to a building on campus. Bailey Harris Construction Company is the contractor.
- A permit was also issued for a $1 million alteration at Bridge Street Town Centre, which has recently announced four businesses in the past two months. Vincent Construction of Birmingham is the contractor.
Davidson Homes was the top homebuilder. It was issued 44 permits totaling $10.8 million. Woodland Homes was issued nine permits totaling $7.4 million. Lennar Homes was issued 56 permits totaling $7.2 million.
