Northland Airports Receive Federal Grants for Safety, Infrastructure

Sep. 2--Four Northland airports were awarded more than $7 million in grants combined through the Federal Aviation Administration. 

More than $1.2 billion in federal grants were awarded to 405 airports across the country. In the Northland:

-- Duluth International Airport was awarded $1,225,371 for snow removal equipment, to expand an apron and seal airport surfaces.

-- Ely Municipal Airport was awarded $1,203,710 to rehabilitate a taxiway.

-- Grand Rapids/Itasca County Airport was awarded $4,150,662 to rehabilitate a runway.

-- Tower Municipal Airport was awarded $506,361 to build a snow removal equipment building.
