More than 600 Flights Canceled Due to Hurricane Dorian
Two airports will close Monday and more than 600 flights are canceled statewide as Hurricane Dorian ravaged the Bahamas and appeared likely to make landfall in Florida.
“Palm Beach International will cease all commercial air service beginning tomorrow, and Orlando Melbourne International plans to close on Monday evening," Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a press briefing Sunday evening.
Most of the flight cancellations were from Florida airports, USA Today reported, with 227 still canceled in and out of the main airport in Orlando and 62 more from ancillary Orlando Sanford International Airport, said USA Today, citing FlightAware.
Palm Beach Airport was to cease all commercial air service beginning on Monday, DeSantis said Sunday evening, as the storm seemed to be shifting course with a higher potential to make landfall rather than turn northward to skirt the coast as first predicted.
Fort Lauderdale International Airport was also canceling flights, with more than 160 halted by Sunday evening, USA Today reported. Spirit and Southwest airlines had canceled about 130 flights each, according to reports.
Airports along the East Coast were on alert, though they were waiting to see what path the storm would take before acting.
