New Istanbul Airport Served Over 16 million Passengers Since Early 2019

Aug. 6--In January-July 2019, the new airport in Istanbul served 16.072 million passengers, Trend reports referring to the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry of Turkey.

Some 4.227 million passengers were served by domestic flights, while 11.845 million passengers were served by international flights.

The ministry noted that during the reported period, 123,741 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul airport, 33,988 of which were domestic, while 89,753 were international.

During the reported period, the volume of cargo transportation at the new Istanbul airport amounted to 809,074 tons, of which 39 386 tons accounted for domestic flights, while 769,688 tons were carried by international flights.

The opening ceremony of the new airport, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, took place in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.
