Runway Removed from Historic Airport

Sept. 1, 2020

PARK TWP. — The runway at the former Park Township Airport is no more, signaling an end to the airport's decades of aviation history.

Last week, crews were spotted at the property at the intersection of 152nd Avenue and Ottawa Beach Road tearing up the pavement, which is expected to be saved and repurposed for township park projects.

The Park Township Airport sign along Ottawa Beach Road has also been taken down.

The airport was closed by the township following an airport millage vote in March that failed to pass. The Park Township Board of Trustees had vowed to close the airport if the millage did not pass.

Pilots who kept their aircraft at the airport vacated the hangars in advance of Aug. 1, the deadline to move their planes elsewhere.
