SFO is launching a pilot for premium Uber passengers to get picked up curbside for the two-month holiday season starting Wednesday.

Drivers will meet travelers who choose Uber Comfort, Uber Select and Uber XL curbside at each domestic terminal instead of designated locations in the domestic garage. Premium passengers can meet their rides at Door 9 for Terminal 1, Doors 5 and 6 for Terminal 2, and Doors 12 and 13 for Terminal 3.

Nothing will change for Uber Black and Uber Black SUV passengers, who already get picked up curbside. International arrival pick-ups will remain at the center island of the Departure level roadway.

“Our goal is to make SFO easier for travelers to access, and this new pilot program offers a premium curbside pickup experience during the holiday travel season,” Airport Director Ivar C. Satero said in a press release Tuesday. “We hope this option makes traveling through SFO more enjoyable for our guests.”

SFO banned Uber and Lyft curbside pickups in early June and was overwhelmed the first weekend it went into effect. Airport director Ivar Satero said in the past the airport could see more than 1,200 Uber and Lyft drivers in the first 15 to 20 minutes of Sunday night peak.

Lyft is not participating in the pilot, the airport said.
