A flight was diverted to Birmingham after experiencing so much turbulence that some passengers were taken to area hospitals.

The American Airlines plane was headed from Tampa to Nashville when it was diverted to Birmingham. The airline is bringing in another aircraft later this evening for the passengers who will continue on to Tennessee.

Reynolds said a total of 56 passengers were on the plane. Ten passengers were evaluated, and seven others taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
