80 Mph Winds Push Parked Jetliners Away from DFW Airport Gates
DALLAS — Parked American Airlines jets were pushed by “straight-line wind gusts up to 80 mph” on Tuesday at DFW International Airport with the severe storms spread across North Texas, the Fort Worth-based carrier confirmed.
According to American, several parked, unoccupied aircraft were impacted by the wind and no injuries were reported. The carrier’s maintenance team is conducting inspections and will make any repairs needed.
A video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter by DallasTexasTV had gone viral Tuesday of a parked aircraft moving away from a jetbridge during the storm. DFW and Love Field both had no reported power outages as of this morning.
The plane appears a Boeing 737-800, which weighs roughly 90,000 pounds when empty.
Both North Texas airports had called off several flights for the day after the morning’s storm brought in destructive winds of up to 80 mph and half dollar size hail to the area.
Thousands of people were without power in North Texas after outages Tuesday morning in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman, Tarrant, Rockwall and Wise counties, according to Oncor’s outage map.
