Plane Crashes Near Meadow Lake Airport, Killing Lone Person Aboard

Aug. 27, 2020

A single-engine plane with one person aboard crashed Wednesday morning near Meadow Lake Airport in Falcon, killing the pilot, the Federal Aviation Authority said.

The crash occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m., about one mile south of the regional airport in the 6000 block of McCandlish Road, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. A caller told 911 that the “aircraft appeared to be attempting to land when it flipped over and came to rest upside down,” the sheriff’s office said.

Emergency responders found the unidentified pilot dead inside the plane when they arrived. The aircraft was on fire.

A stretch of McCandlish road south of Falcon remains closed, the sheriff’s office said.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation, and neither agency could immediately determine the cause of the crash.
