Flight Maintenance Engineer at Kalitta Air Fabian Martin is renowned at his organization for his passion for continuing education and training, plus his dedication to mentoring new A&P technicians.

Kamilah Parker comments on Martin’s dedication to learning and his work at Kalitta Air, stating, “With an MBA in Aviation Management and extensive FAA and OEM certifications, Fabian has positioned himself as a forward-thinking professional with a goal of being a lifelong learner. His roles at Kalitta Air progressing from Aircraft Maintenance Technician to Flight Maintenance Engineer highlight his ability to oversee complex maintenance operations, lead cross functional teams, and ensure compliance with rigorous FAA standards.”

When asked about a defining moment that shaped his career, Martin explains, “In 2022, while working in my previous role, I was unexpectedly asked to step in as lead for a critical engine replacement on a Boeing 747. Though I’d participated in many engine changes before, this was my first time overseeing the entire operation, managing a team of six, ensuring strict adherence to manuals, safety protocols and coordinating every step of the process. Admittedly, I felt a bit nervous, but I embraced the challenge. The job went smoothly, reinforcing the importance of preparation, teamwork and attention to detail.”

Martin added, “That moment became a turning point for me. Just a few months later, when an aircraft went AOG (Aircraft on Ground) in South Korea and needed an emergency engine change, I volunteered without hesitation. Because of my prior performance, I was entrusted to lead the team again this time on an international assignment. Those experiences taught me the value of stepping up, trusting my training, and embracing challenges head-on.”

To aspiring aviation maintenance technicians, Martin says, “Be adaptable and open to change. Approach this field with curiosity and resilience. Be a sponge ready to absorb every bit of knowledge you can from mentors, manuals and hands-on experience…and don’t fear mistakes. They’re inevitable, but how you respond defines your growth. Persistence is key. Mastery comes from repetition, patience, and the willingness to keep improving.”

Martin adds, “The skills you build from A&P school and throughout your career at an airline or MRO station aren’t just technical, they’re lessons in discipline, problem-solving and responsibility that will stay with you forever.”
