Peter Kubinec, mechanic III at StandardAero, has been dedicated to the aviation industry since 2010, when he began working as a detailed inspector.

Having held several roles at StandardAero throughout his career, including working on the Winnipeg PT6A Service Center team and introducing the Safran Arriel 1 and Arriel 2 turboshafts to the company’s Plant 4 facility.

Kubinec’s colleagues praise his technical skill and dedication, and especially his commitment to safety.

Discussing Peter’s dedication to his team, VP Marketing at StandardAero Alex Youngs says, “This has included spending over 10 years as a safety representative, including as a designated flight safety representative for the Helicopters team. Peter has also taken first aid training, again to ensure that the emergency medical needs of the broader team in Winnipeg are met.”

When asked what he enjoys most about his work in aviation maintenance, Kubinec answers, “I love the level of technical depth there is from dismantling engines, detailed inspection, assembling and troubleshooting etc. There aren’t many days that are the same which keeps it interesting and fresh. Getting to see the fruits of your labor in a successful product test and delivery is what you strive for.”

While he’s accomplished much in his career, Kubinec names being part of StandardAero’s field service team as his proudest achievement.

Kubinec shares, “The idea of leaning on every discipline as a mechanic and using your intimate knowledge on the product as an expert, working directly with the customers and seeing that immediate hands-on impact of your service was a goal I wanted to achieve, and I’m proud I was able to work towards and experience that.”

Peter also has advice for new professionals in aviation. He says, “Embrace change and challenges that come your way. There is an unbelievable amount of knowledge and opportunities in the industry. If you enjoy learning, taking on new challenges there are so many directions you can take your career if you are willing to put in the effort.”
