EHang’s EH216-S eVTOL Conducts First Public Flight in Hong Kong

The success of the flight highlighted the aircraft’s autonomous flight control abilities and stable flight performance.

EHang recently announced that its eVTOL aircraft EH216-S successfully conducted its first-ever public flight in Hong Kong.

The flight at the Hong Kong Cyberport is also the aircraft’s first demonstration since its validation tests started in August 2026.

Ehang’s eVTOL development is making progress under the HKSAR Government’s Low-Altitude Economy “Regulatory Sandbox X” Trial Project that aims to establish urban air mobility (UAM) capabilities in the area.

EHang’s EH216-S aircraft completed the latest demonstration smoothly, demonstrating:

  • Vertical takeoff and landing
  • Low-altitude cruise
  • Hover maneuvers

The success of the flight highlighted the aircraft’s autonomous flight control abilities and stable flight performance, with more tests planned to evaluate capabilities in high-frequency operational situations.

EHang is working toward commercialization for the eVTOL, collaborating with:

  • Kwoon Chung Smart Mobility Company Limited
  • Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited

Next phases of the project include systematic validation flights to gather operational data to help develop eVTOL capabilities and establish regulatory frameworks and standards for UAM operations.

EHang noted that the company’s progress in eVTOL development are made easier by the EH216-S holding multiple certifications already, such as:

  • Type Certificate (TC)
  • Production Certificate (PC)
  • Standard Airworthiness Certificate (AC)

EHang Chief Operating Officer Mr. Zhao Wang said, "The first public flight of the EH216-S under the Project marks an important validation under the sandbox approach and further demonstrates the maturity of our technology standards and safety systems.”

Wang continued, “The sandbox approach provides a practical pathway for validating emerging aircraft and establishing regulatory frameworks—providing real-world flight data generated in a safe and controlled environment to support regulatory assessment.”

“For markets that have yet to establish regulatory frameworks for pilotless aircraft, the sandbox approach offers a replicable model for introducing pilotless aviation,” added Wang.

He concluded, “Building on this sandbox model and our Global Fast Track Program, EHang will continue to expand across Asia and other global markets and steadily advance the commercialization and deployment of pilotless human-carrying eVTOL operations."
