UND Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing Along County Road
Dec. 13—A UND airplane made an emergency landing on a county road on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 11.
According to UND, two members of UND's student flying team landed on a country road near Northwood after experiencing engine problems. There were no injuries during the incident. The students were flying in a normal UND practice area when the plane began shaking, and experienced a partial power loss.
The pilots were not close enough to the nearby Northwood Airport, and opted to land the plane on a paved county road.
"They did an outstanding job in handling the situation," said David Dodds, UND spokesperson.
After landing, the students maneuvered the plane into a turnout along the road, so it could remain open. The students were then driven back to Grand Forks later Saturday evening. The airplane was placed on a trailer, but remained at the landing site because of darkness. It was taken to the Northwood Airport on Sunday, and is awaiting maintenance, inspections and corrections.
