The firm announced that Savannah-based Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. has acquired a provisional type certificate from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration for its latest super midsized business jet, the G280.
The jet is designed and manufactured by Gulfstream, a completely owned subsidiary of General Dynamics in association with Israel Aerospace Industries in Tel Aviv. Preliminary phase manufacturing occurs at IAI, close to the Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel, where Gulfstream upholds a fully staffed office to manage production. Concluding phase manufacturing occurs at the Gulfstream Center of Excellence completion facility for mid-cabin aircraft in Dallas. The G280 received provision type certification from the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel in December. Gulfstream President Larry Flynn said: The G280 will be the fastest, largest, most comfortable aircraft in its class, and we are very pleased with its performance throughout the flight-test program. With these certificates in hand, we are now able to move forward in preparation for customer deliveries later this year, as scheduled. The 2012 cost for the G280 is approximately $24 million; however Gulfstream spokeswoman Heidi Fedak said every order slot for 2012 are already filled. She added that the 2013 delivery price is expected at $25 million.
