XOPS is using GSE Expo Europe to officially launch XOPS Insight, a new data analytics platform designed to turn fleet operating data into recommendations ground handlers can use to improve maintenance, asset utilization, energy consumption and ramp safety.

The software-as-a-service platform moves beyond displaying or analyzing historical fleet data by providing operators with prescriptive recommendations, according to Marie Faucon, head of sales and marketing for XOPS.

“We go from descriptive data to recommendations for operators to make decisions,” Faucon said during the show in Lisbon.

Insight focuses on several areas of GSE operations, including predictive maintenance, energy and fuel optimization, fleet sizing, asset availability, driver behavior and ramp safety.

Rather than requiring an operator to examine a dashboard and determine what the data means, the platform is intended to identify opportunities for operational changes.

Fleet sizing is one example. Insight can analyze equipment utilization over time and show an operator that a station has consistently required only 10 baggage tractors, for example, rather than the 12 currently assigned there. Similar analysis can be applied to maintenance and equipment availability to help operators determine whether assets are operating, undergoing maintenance or sitting unused.

The platform draws on XOPS' accumulated fleet data and its integration with TLD and Smart Airport Systems. XOPS has been operating for approximately 10 years, giving its data scientists access to historical operating information that can be used to develop the recommendations incorporated into Insight.

Faucon said the system can work with both TLD and non-TLD equipment.

“All that data enables us to develop so much knowledge that we push into the system, and that then goes to all our clients, whether they use TLD or non-TLD assets,” she said.

The platform is also intended to reduce the amount of internal data analysis required from ground handling organizations. Insight can operate as a standalone system without extensive IT integration, or it can be integrated with other systems, including computerized maintenance management systems, predictive maintenance and safety monitoring platforms. Its information can also be displayed within an airport operations center.

Insight is offered through a SaaS model. Operators install the necessary hardware on their fleet and subscribe to the software platform to access and analyze the resulting data.

Although XOPS has already begun selling Insight, the company is using GSE Expo Europe in Lisbon for its formal product launch.

The introduction reflects a broader move within GSE fleet management toward using connected-equipment data not simply to monitor assets, but to guide operational decisions about how equipment is maintained, deployed and used on the ramp.
