Lödige Industries Receives Award for Advancing Automation in Air Cargo Handling
Lödige Industries has received the Innovation Award – Product at the 41st Air Cargo News Awards in London for its automated guided vehicles (AGVs) deployed in air cargo terminals.
The self-driving units are designed to automate movement of unit load devices (ULDs) across cargo facilities, reducing reliance on fixed conveyors and manual transport. According to the company, the technology improves space utilization, increases handling efficiency and lowers the risk of equipment damage and workplace accidents. The vehicles are currently in use at several terminals and are capable of long-distance travel within facilities.
Lödige has been developing and testing the system since 2018 and says wider implementation is now underway. The company notes that the AGVs are intended to support scalable operations as air cargo automation continues to expand.
Björn Ussat, director of airport logistic solutions at Lödige Industries, said the recognition underscores the company’s focus on operational safety and efficiency through automation.
