Menzies Rolls Out Digital Travel Document Checks Across European Network
Menzies Aviation has deployed a digital travel document verification tool across its European network to help frontline teams resolve passenger documentation issues more quickly and support on-time boarding.
Developed with aviation technology specialist ABOMIS, TimaCheck is now in use at 45 airports across 24 countries. Since launching earlier this year, the system has completed more than 30,000 passenger checks, identifying more than 9,000 cases involving invalid or incorrect travel documents and flagging more than 16,000 passengers who were eligible to travel subject to specific conditions.
The technology is designed to give Menzies teams faster access to passport, visa and entry requirements at a point in the passenger journey where delays can affect aircraft departure times. By helping agents interpret travel requirements more efficiently, the system can reduce the time needed to resolve documentation questions during check-in and boarding.
TimaCheck draws on Timatic, a database of international passport, visa and entry requirements. The mobile platform provides agents with a simplified interface rather than requiring them to navigate command-line searches, lengthy text outputs or desktop-based systems.
The system operates independently of airline departure control systems and can be used on multiple devices at check-in desks, self-service areas and remote stations. Menzies said the approach is intended to support more consistent decision-making and compliance across its operations.
“Airlines depend on efficient boarding processes to keep flights running on schedule,” said Miguel Gomez Sjunnesson, executive vice president Europe at Menzies Aviation. “TimaCheck enables our teams to quickly resolve travel document queries and make informed decisions in real time, helping protect valuable boarding time while maintaining the highest standards of compliance.”
Ali Timajchi, CEO of ABOMIS, said the system was developed with input from Menzies leadership and frontline employees to create a tool that allows agents to make faster boarding decisions while maintaining compliance.
TimaCheck builds on an existing technology partnership between Menzies and ABOMIS, which previously collaborated on the rollout of a next-generation baggage reconciliation system. Menzies said the projects are part of a broader effort to give frontline employees digital tools aimed at improving operational visibility, consistency and performance.
