SpiceJet, Ground Handling Staff at Odds over Layoffs and Outsourcing
A labor dispute is forming after SpiceJet Airline opted to outsource a portion of its ground handling operations at Mumbai Airport, according to multiple reports.
According to a report from The Economic Times, the budget carrier outsourced some of its ground handling responsibilities to CelebiNAS Airport Services to address financial issues brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following this announcement, the Times of India reported SpiceJet ground staff planned to go on strike as sources stated the airline planned to layoff approximately 300 loaders and drivers.
