KLM Ground Staff Plan Strike Action for Wednesday

Ground staff for Dutch airline KLM are planning their third strike in two weeks on Wednesday, intending to increase the pressure in deadlocked pay negotiations.

Amsterdam (dpa) - Ground staff for Dutch airline KLM are planning their third strike in two weeks on Wednesday.

The move is intended to increase the pressure in deadlocked pay negotiations, the FNV federation of trade unions said on Monday.

The workers plan to strike for four hours from 1 pm, the federation said. The action will mainly affect air traffic in Amsterdam.

The unions are demanding wage increases of 4 per cent per years and better working conditions for around 15,000 employees.

KLM said the planned strike was unnecessary because the management had submitted a new offer for negotiation.

It was unclear how many flights would be affected by the strike. The previous strikes lasted two hours.
