American Airlines will reportedly drop 31,000 flights from its November schedule, with among the most significant cuts coming to a route between Boston and Philadelphia.

The canceled flights represent 16% of the airline’s total trips that month, CNN reported.

According to data provided to the network by aviation analytics company Cirium, the largest cuts to American’s schedule come from routes between Boston and Philadelphia and Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth.

American Airlines flights between Boston Logan International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport currently run about seven to eight times a day in each direction, the company’s schedule shows.

Airline schedules have been repeatedly disrupted in the last year as more people return to the skies. Delays and cancellations are tied to a range of issues, staffing shortages among them.

On CNN last week, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said the air travel system is currently “very brittle.” A “human factor” is the biggest contributor to inconsistent service, he said. “Not having enough crew, especially pilots, to do the job.”

In a statement to the network, American Airlines said the cancellations are “in line with our approach to network and schedule planning throughout the year.”

The statement called the changes “proactive adjustments” in order to “size our airline for the resources we have available and to build additional buffer into the remainder of our summer schedule.”
