US carrier United Airlines lost some 25 million dollars a day on average in the three months to the end of September, according to the company's latest quarterly reported released Wednesday.

New York (dpa) - US carrier United Airlines lost some 25 million dollars a day on average in the three months to the end of September, according to the company's latest quarterly reported released Wednesday.

The aviation industry has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and the associated restrictions on travel. In the previous quarter United was losing an average of 41 million dollars daily.

The flight operator ended the third quarter with a net loss of 1.8 billion dollars. In the previous year, the airline earned 1 billion dollars.

Total operating revenues fell 78 per cent year on year to 2.5 billion dollars.

Chief Executive Scott Kirby said the airline was focused on repositioning for a recovery that will allow it to bring back 13,000 furloughed employees.
